About Last Year’s Bike Expo New York 2012
In keeping with its mission to provide free bicycle education in New York City, Bike New York held several of its signature Learn to Ride classes throughout the event. Garnering more than 43,000 attendees, Bike Expo New York 2012 presented by Eastern Mountain Sports was the most attended inaugural consumer bike expo in the country. BE NY carried an unmistakable New York flair with street signs, carpeted bike lanes and even a massive Verrazano Bridge suspended from the ceiling.

Models paraded the hottest looks for summer riding at the BE Chic, BE NY Fashion show presented by Momentum Magazine. Pro BMX athletes Dan Sieg and 2009 King of New York Champion Rob Deveaux dazzled crowds with jaw-dropping BMX stunts during the Action Sports Showcase presented by Baby Bean: The Action Sports Agency.

"PLEASE revisit the requirement to pick up packets. It is incredibly inconvenient for EVERYONE coming from out of town. There should be an option to pay $2-3 for having the packet mailed. It seems BikeNY is inconveniencing thousands of participants so they can 'guarantee' advertisers/sponsors at least 32,000 cyclists will show up. THis really needs to change."
"Thank you for your feedback."
"Is it too late to register, or is there any way of still registering? I knew about the bike expo but not the tour and I would really like to participate. Thank you."
"We're all sold out. Mark your calendars for 2014! May 4."
"I've searched through all my emails and I can't locate an email with a bar code. I have a confirmation number, but that is it. Will be able to pick up my race packet tomorrow?"
"Yes, of course. If you have your registration number or rider number, bring it. If not, just come with your ID and we'll figure it out."
"I agree with "kpny". There should be at least be an option to pay additional $2-$3 dollars to have bibs and numbers mailed for those who do not wish to go to the expo or are out of town."
"Thanks for the feedback."
"Can we pick up the packet on the day of the Tour?
I was able to do that the last 2 years at the Main Tent in Battery Park.
FYI, I am from North Carolina and driving into NYC and arriving late Saturday night."
"I have searched through every email I have received from you, yet I see no bar code anywhere. I have received the confirmation email with confirmation number but does not contain a bar code. I read that I need the bar code for my proxy to pick up my packet. What should I do?"
"Can you send me your real name, so we can look you up and send it to you? I'm at ekiker(at)bikenewyork(dot)org."
"As an out-of-town rider, I find the policy to require in person pickup of the registration package to be HIGHLY DISCRIMINATORY. Under the new policy, I now must take a second trip to NY and donate an extra day’s effort to ride in the event. Though I understand the interest of Bike NY to control the registration process, I also think that it should be revisited so that out-of-town riders are not forced to spend a precious resource, time, without due cause."
"Thank you for your feedback; we appreciate it."
"Can my wife pick up mine and and our son's packets if we both sign proxies and provide id and the Confirmation emails we received?
She is not registered."
"Yes, this is fine. Thank you for asking."
"Because of your location, it is out of the way for almost any form of transportation except by bicycle maybe. Will you have bike racks, many I hope, for people attending the expo? Thanks."
"Yes, there will be bike valet parking at the Expo."
"Given that you are not mailing bibs, I don't think you could have chosen a more inconvenient place for people to be forced to pick them up in all of NYC. Compared to what I used to pay, the amount of hassle to participate is inversely proportional. (I'm not talking about the necessary security; I'm talking about the administration of bibs.)
It's really making me reconsider participating next year."
"Thank you for your feedback. I hope the Tour and the Expo far exceed your expectations."
"i have plastic children basket on my handlebar. is it permitted?"
"As long as it is empty, it is fine."
"Since many of us are travelling, are we aloud to bring backpacks into the exhibitor hall so we can put our bikeNY pockets in our bag right away so we don't loose it out on the street?"
"These restrictions are for the TD Five Boro Bike Tour only, not for Bike Expo New York. You can bring a backpack to the Bike Expo."
