Bike New York's Bicycle Education Program Staff
Rich Conroy, Bicycle Education Program Director
Rich Conroy (tel. 212 932 2453 x159) joined Bike New York in 2004 to spearhead the organization's new Bicycle Education Program. Having previously taught bike mechanics and led youth bike rides for Children's Aid Society/ Recycle-A-Bicycle, Rich quickly earned certification as a League of American Bicyclists Cycling Instructor. He serves on the board of Recycle-A-Bicycle and is a member of the New York Cycle Club, the Five Borough Bicycle Club, and the League of American Bicyclists.
Originally from Nebraska, Rich rode his bike to middle school and to summer jobs every day, just as he now rides to work. He has a background in academia, with a doctorate in international affairs and a master's degree in peace studies. His family includes three road bikes and one tandem that he built from frames, three cats, and a daughter who recently learned to ride a bike.
Emilia Crotty, Bicycle Education Program Manager
Emilia Crotty (tel. 212 932 2453 x131) came to Bike New York in 2007 after nearly four years working for the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York where, among other activities, she developed a girls' cycling program, organized bicycle rodeos, and led mother-daughter rides. She has worked with children through the YMCA and Girl Scouts since the late 1990s and began training adult Girl Scout leaders in 2003.
Emilia's cycling interests include touring and triathlon, and she is a member of Transportation Alternatives' Long Island City/Astoria Advocacy Committee. She earned certification as a League of American Bicyclists Cycling Instructor in 2006.
