World bicycle adventurette
spent 3 months touring Cuba
on a folding bicycle, eschewing
tourist hotels and typical
itineraries in favor of an
unpredictable day-to-day existence among ordinary Cubans. Her book and slideshow chronicle both the challenges of being a solo female traveler on two wheels and the strangeness of life in the land of Fidel. bicycles (the modern prototype).
They took along an early Kodak
camera to chronicle their
adventures. For the past three
decades, UCLA has held a substantial
collection of fragile nitrate negatives capturing the
photos these two took during the year 1891, covering
the portion of their journey from Athens to Tashkent.
