If you’ve mastered the basic week-to-week tasks of routine bike maintenance, you’re ready for something a little more advanced. This four-hour course covers common bike repair tasks and will teach you how to replace parts that wear out, adjust important bearings, and more. While these repairs are slightly more complicated than those covered in Bike Maintenance 101, they are still jobs that most people can perform themselves with basic, affordable, commonly available tools.

Bike New York is partnering with Recycle-A-Bicycle to bring you this class, and all proceeds support Recycle-a-Bicycle’s mission of youth job training and environmental education. Each student leaves with bike repair materials valued at $30.

Is This the Right Class for You?

This class goes beyond the basics of general maintenance to teach you the more advanced skills necessary to perform basic bike repair. If you’ve already attended Bike Maintenance 101 and are hungry for more, this is the class for you. If you know how to fix a flat tire, clean and lube your bike’s chain, and adjust your bike’s brakes and derailleur, you’re ready for Bike Maintenance 201.

Want to hone your basic bike maintenance skills before diving into more complicated maneuvers? Attend the useful Bike Maintenance 101 class, then check out Bike Maintenance 201 when you’re ready.

Still not sure which class level is right for you? This questionnaire might help.

  • Do you know how to change a flat tire, and have you done it on your own?
  • Do you lube your chain regularly?
  • Do you know how to adjust your gear cables so your derailleur shifts accurately?
  • Do you know how to examine your brake pads for proper alignment and inspect them for wear?

If you answered “No” to any of the questions above, we recommend taking Bike Maintenance 101 first.
