During the colder winter months of January, February and March, Bike New York will be holding indoor Learn to Ride – Adults classes. Outdoor Learn to Ride classes will resume in April 2013. Click “Next” on the calendar above to view additional sessions. All class dates, times, and locations are subject to change.
Learn to Ride—Adults is a free, 2-hour class for adults and mature teens who are ready to ride! Through a safe, easy, effective method, Learn to Ride students learn how to balance, pedal, start, stop, and steer a bike as well as adjust a helmet for proper fit. Most people learn to ride their bikes while taking the class, but even if they don’t, they leave with an easy, crash-free, and low-stress way to teach themselves to ride.
Course Content
- Adjusting your helmet for a comfortable, effective fit
- Balancing on a bicycle
- Pedaling
- Steady starting and stopping
- Steering with control

| Class duration: | 2 hours |
| Class location: | Controlled, outdoor environment |
| Class size: | Up to 30 adult and mature teen students |
| Instructors: | One trained class captain and volunteers |
| Instructor to student ratio: | 1 to 8, on average |

*Bike New York has 15-20 adult bicycles and helmets available while supplies last to those who register online. Once each bicycle has been reserved, the class will be listed as “full” and online registration for that particular session will close. Students who choose to bring their own bicycle must be sure that the bicycle fits and is in good working order (i.e., wheels spin freely, brakes function). You must be able to rest your feet flat on the ground while sitting on the bicycle seat. Please note: Indoor classes cannot accommodate students who bring their own bicycle. Students must register online and use a Bike New York loaner bicycle, while supplies last.

Students are Saying
"I am 27 years old and I had never been on a bicycle until the class. This was something I always wanted to learn, but the more years that passed the more anxious I felt about the process of learning. Now I am really exited about cycling, and I am looking forward to the summer on wheels! I even inspired my older sister to learn!"
"Thanks so much, I couldn't tell you guys enough how grateful I am for the wonderful program you have and the skillful professionals that you are! I had a great time! Thank you for all your volunteers and all the people that make these bike lessons for adults happen! I am so very happy—I am 60 yrs young, never learned to ride a bike and with your volunteer staff's guidance, patience and instructions, I learned the same day!"
"Just want to thank you for the wonderful teaching session today. 25 years after the first attempt, I finally learned how to ride a bike--in two hours! I think you have a great program."
"Just wanted to thank you guys for starting me on skill I will have for a lifetime."

"i would like to be put on a waiting list for adults to learn to ride a bike
im 41 yrs old i really would like to learn badly pls help thanks"
"Is there anyway someone can organize adult bike lessons out in Long Island especially in Nassau County? Eisenhower Park in East Meadow has a few gentle slopes, plenty of large parking lots, and paved paths for bikes that would be perfect for lessons. There's very little options for bike lessons outside of Manhattan. Thanks!"
"Awesome class. Thank you. I can ride a bike now."
"Jenny, there are some classes that have wait lists. Please email classes@bikenewyork.org for more info!"
"Is there a wait list for the adult "Learn To Ride" classes?"
"Hi Samuel,
We did have adult classes scheduled at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, but our bike fleet was stolen from that location, so the classes had to be canceled/relocated for the season. Find out more about that story by checking out our media page: http://www.bikenewyork.org/news/in-the-media/"
"How about some adult education classes at Flushing Meadow Park. Brooklyn, Bronx, and Manhattan are quite a trip for us Long Islanders.
Thanks
Sam"
