Bus Information

Traveling from New York City? Take our chartered bus from Manhattan to Millerton! This bus, available for riders registering by July 16 for an additional charge of $50, will transport you to and from the start/finish area in Millerton on ride day, July 25, while your bike travels on an accompanying truck. As of July 20, online bus registration is closed.

Buses will load in the morning at 5:00 and 6:30 a.m. at Hostelling International-New York at 891 Amsterdam Avenue, on the corner of West 103rd Street on Manhattan's Upper West Side. The closest subway stop is a block away at Broadway and 103rd Street, on the #1 line. Morning buses are assigned based on ride distance, with the first bus leaving early enough to transport riders doing the 100-mile route. Travel time to Millerton is two hours.

In the afternoon, the first bus will leave Millerton when there are sufficient people on it, as close to 4:00 p.m. as possible. The second bus will leave at 6:00 p.m. with all the remaining riders.

Please note that the bus is available for the Sunday event only. We do not provide transportation for the group rides on Saturday.

Driving Directions

The Harlem Valley Rail Ride starts and finishes at Eddie Collins Memorial Field on Route 22 in Millerton, New York. If you need an address for your GPS or mapping software, use Floods Sanitation, 5992 North Elm Avenue, which is right across the street. Follow signs for Rail Ride parking upon entering the village of Millerton, and be sure to remember the location where you park.

From the south via the Taconic State Parkway:
  • North on Major Deegan Expressway (Interstate 87).
  • Exit onto Cross County Parkway (Exit 4) - stay in right lane - follow signs for Bronx Parkway.
  • Exit onto Sprain Brook Parkway heading north. Sprain Brook Parkway becomes Taconic State Parkway.
  • Exit onto Route 44 North/East. Continue north and east on Route 44.
  • Turn left onto Route 22 North to Millerton.
  • Distance: 96 miles from the Cross-Bronx Expressway.
From the south via I-684:
  • North on Major Deegan Expressway (Interstate 87).
  • Exit onto Interstate 287 East - follow signs for White Plains.
  • Exit onto Interstate 684 North and take this until it ends.
  • Exit onto Route 22 North - follow signs for Brewster - north on Route 22 past Dover Plains and Amenia to Millerton.
  • Distance: 96 miles from the Cross-Bronx Expressway.
From Long Island/Queens:
  • Cross Whitestone Bridge.
  • Continue north on Hutchinson River Parkway.
  • Exit onto Interstate 684 North.
  • Exit onto Route 22 North - follow signs for Brewster - north on Route 22 past Dover Plains and Amenia to Millerton.
  • Distance: 89 miles from Whitestone Bridge.
From New Jersey:
  • Option #1 - Cross George Washington Bridge. Exit from Cross-Bronx Expressway onto Interstate 87 North. Follow directions for Taconic State Parkway or I-684 above.
  • Option #2 - Cross Tappan Zee Bridge. Either (1) exit onto Sprain Brook Parkway North, which becomes Taconic State Parkway, or (2) continue on Interstate 287 East to Interstate 684 North. Exit onto Route 22 North to Millerton.
  • Distance: 97 miles from George Washington Bridge, 82 miles from Tappan Zee Bridge.
From Albany, NY:
  • East on Interstate 90.
  • Exit onto Taconic Parkway South.
  • Exit onto Route 23 East.
  • Turn right onto Route 22 South to Millerton.
  • Distance: 64 miles from Interstate 787.
From Lenox/Stockbridge/Great Barrington, MA:
  • Route 7 South to Great Barrington.
  • Right onto Route 23 West.
  • Left onto Route 41 South.
  • Right onto Route 44 West to Millerton.
  • Distance: 23 miles from Great Barrington.
From Hartford, CT:
  • Route 44 West - past Winsted and Canaan to Millerton.
  • Distance: 54 miles from Hartford.
From Danbury, CT:
  • West on Interstate 84.
  • Exit onto Route 22 North - go past Dover Plains and Amenia to Millerton.
  • Distance: 50 miles from Danbury.

Train Advisory

There is a train station 11 miles away from the event start/finish. However, this is not a good option for getting to the event due to the infrequent schedule and limited bike capacity. Please see the MTA website for details; look up the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem line train to Wassaic.
